HM Revenue and Customs have announced plans to scrap the seven-day ‘grace’ period for filing company tax returns and employers end-of-year returns affecting contractors working through their limited company. From March 31st 2011, these returns must be submitted to HMRC by the required dates.

Creditsafe yesterday unveiled research which revealed that more than 90% of firms have had to send invoices again and again over the past year because of clients’ tactics to delay payment for a contractors work. HM Revenue and Customs has confirmed that the rate of VAT for most firms will revert to 17.5% on January 1 2010, despite pleas for a postponement. HMRC said that all businesses, including contractors with limited companies, who apply the standard rate, will be affected by the move from the date.
