Contract Eye have reported that the latest release of the Monster Employment Index UK has shown that the IT and Engineering sectors are growing strongly. These two industries are closely associated with contractors so these results are sure to be positive news for contractors working or looking for work in these industries.
The Monster Employment Index UK measures online job availability and the results showed that the number of engineering roles has increased by 24% and IT roles by 19% over the past 12 months.
Although the findings fare well for IT and Engineering contractors, there has been a fall for management and consulting, down by 15%, and education and marketing roles dropping by around 5% since January 2011.
Speaking to Contract Eye about the January figures, Michael Gentle from Monster UK said that the economic uncertainty in the Eurozone was taking its toll on UK recruitment:
“While the Index still registers annual gains of one percent in January, the rate of growth has slowed down from the six percent pace in December.
“Despite this, companies are still actively hiring, with opportunities for professionals in a number of sectors like Engineering and IT.”
