BP have agreed terms with Subsea 7 to begin the planned expansion of the Clair Ridge drilling project. This is good news for oil and gas contractors as there should be plenty of opportunities for them.
BP said they chose to work with Subsea 7 because of the company’s expertise in advanced petroleum engineering. As part of the second stage of the four stage project, they will produce the new pipelines.
Subsea 7 vice president Steph McNeil said; “We are pleased to be awarded this major pipeline project by BP, which builds upon our unique bundle technology. Fabrication will take place at our Wick facility in Scotland, which has a proven track record of successful bundle design, fabrication and installation, securing work for approximately 100 people. We look forward to helping bring on-stream the Clair Ridge Project in an efficient, timely and safe manner.”
BP chief executive Bob Dudley said that at its peak, the project would create around 3,000 oil and gas jobs in the North Sea. Scottish Secretary Michael Moore said that the investment illustrated the continued success of UK oil fields. “The contract award to Subsea 7 is just the latest piece of good news for the UK’s oil and gas sector and its supply chain in Scotland.”
