IT Industry Expects Boost From Increased Spending

Worldwide spending in the IT sector is expected to reach $3.6 trillion (£2.3tn) in 2011 according to a report from IT analysts Gartner. This is a rise of 5.1% from $3.4tn in 2010, which itself was up from a 5.4% increase in 2009.

An increased investment in the sector and for new businesses, could help to increase the demand for IT contractors in 2011. Richard Gordon, research vice-president at Gartner, believes that although the global economic situation is improving, recovery has been slow. Commenting on the increase in IT spending he said;

“As well as a fundamental enabler of cost reduction and cost optimisation, investment in IT is seen increasingly as an important element in business growth strategies. As the global economy repairs itself in coming years, we are optimistic about continued healthy spending on IT.”

IT Recruitment Agency CV Screen have also carried out a study which found that there was a 10% rise in the number of IT vacancies registered during the last six months of 2010.

A spokesman for the organisation said that; “2010 has been a real turning point for the IT Jobs Market. We were hopeful that the economic climate would improve over the course of the year and the figures show that this has indeed been the case.”

“The end of the recession in January 2010 brought renewed confidence amongst employers. Many who were previously cautious with regards to their recruitment policy have started to employ more staff and invest in their IT departments.”

With prospects looking up, particularly for highly skilled IT workers, this news from the IT sector should be a boost to contractors and freelancers workers for 2011 and beyond.
