IT Sector Experiencing Shortage of Skills

A recent survey conducted by independent IT management consultancy specialist Xanthus has revealed that an increasing number of IT professionals believe there is a skills shortage in the IT sector.

Almost 50% of chief information officers in the UK feel performance is being negatively affected by a lack of important IT skills. This shortage could be costing affected firms millions of pounds.

Respondents believed there is also a lack of management skills within many IT departments which is affecting overall productivity. They believe opportunities could be created for skilled IT contractors that possess strong management skills. IT skills such as SAP, Perl, NET, Business Analysis, IT Security and Office support are among those currently in high demand.

Steve Watmough, chief executive officer of Xantus, said, “For most organisations, IT is a critical part of the core infrastructure. Critically, they need teams around them that also recognise their strategic importance and have the skills to deliver this.”
