Debt Collection Agencies Hired By HMRC

In a bid to collect outstanding taxes, HMRC have enlisted the services of four debt collection agencies. The government hopes this will bring in an additional £140m over the current financial year.

HMRC will give taxpayers the chance to pay, or make an arrangement to pay, before passing the outstanding debt on to one of the following limited company debt collection agencies; iQor Recovery Services, Credit Solutions, Fairfax Solicitors, Commercial Collection Services.

This decision to use debt collection agencies to chase the outstanding debt was mentioned in the Emergency Budget. It follows a successful pilot scheme and the government has put protection in place to ensure the chosen companies operate to HMRC and industry standards.

Those individuals and businesses that are really struggling to pay their outstanding tax liabilities are being helped by the Revenue and measures are being put in place, but those people who refuse to pay need to be chased and this partnership with the debt collection agencies will ensure that they are.
