After a turbulent 2009 for IT Security contractors, the market appears to be stabilising and demand for contractors within this field is beginning to increase. A study by Barclay Simpson found that in 2009, rates for contractors within IT Security fell by between 10% and 20% with contractors increasingly signing permanent contracts fearing that ongoing contracts would be dropped.
However, the same study shows a much healthier market for 2010 with Barclay Simpson reporting a recent increase in the number of vacancies on its books. They also add that although job prospects have improved for contractors, they are yet to recover to pre credit-crunch boom times. Vacancies were 53% higher in the second half of 2009 than in the first six months of the year, a record low, Barclay Simpson reports.
“We are cautiously optimistic about the recovery that is underway within the corporate governance recruitment market,” said Adrian Simpson of Barclays Simpson. “We are confident that the demand for information security professionals will continue to improve and we are already seeing staff shortages in specialist areas,” he added.
