In a drive to gain wider recognition for the contribution that freelancers, consultants and contractors make to the UK economy, The Professional Contractors Group has declared 23rd November as National Freelancers Day. The PCG wants Freelancers and Contractors to be recognised for their ability to provide flexible solutions, working hard with their clients to assist economic recovery.
As detailed on the PCG’S website the day aims to highlight this flexible, agile and expert community to UK businesses, educating on how to engage and work with freelancers and contractors to help beat the credit crunch. They also want to celebrate freelancing and contracting as a valid career choice, highlighting the community and support network.
There will be a number of events held throughout the UK on 23rd November to celebrate National Freelancers Day which aims to bring together and emphasise the importance of the UK’s freelance workforce. PCG will also be calling on its members and the broader community to talk about what it means to be a freelancer and to spread the word through as many channels as possible.
There are an estimated 1.4 million freelance workers in the UK and it has grown in importance to the UK economy. The number of people freelancing and contracting has increased by 14 percent in a decade. Of these, 62% are male, 38% female and the distribution appears to be uneven across different occupations. Men appear prevalent in management, IT, engineering and broadcasting whilst women appear prevalent in translation services, as proofreaders and editors in book publishing.
So be sure to show your support on 23rd November for National Freelancers Day. More information can be sought by visiting the PCG’s website.
